A man is suing the city of Springfield and four narcotics detectives after a crash this spring at Mount Vernon and Scenic killed his wife.
The suit on behalf of Dustin Sowards says police were investigating Tommy Morris, Jr. for possible drug dealing when he sped away, ran a red light and slammed into Dana Sowards’ car.
The suit claims officers were just a few seconds behind Morris, who’s charged with murder, but police say they were not actively pursuing Morris when he crashed.
The lawsuit also states there was a warrant for Morris’ arrest and officers knew where to find him.
