The Missouri House Budget Committee chairman is proposing a $100-million transportation plan.
Carthage GOP State Representative Cody Smith tells Missourinet that this would be the first time in recent history that general revenue would be used to fund roads and bridges.
Smith says the plan that does NOT raise taxes nor incur new debt.
Proposition D would have increased the state’s gasoline tax by .10 per gallon to help pay for highway and bridge improvements.
Missouri’s .17 gas tax has remained the same since 1996.
