Voters In Republic Will Decide On Several Changes To The City Charter

Voters in Republic will be having a few decisions to make on the April ballot.

Some of those changes will include a 1% sales tax and a change with elected officials’ term limits.

The city administrator says the city is pushing for changes to the charter which hasn’t been updated in 12 years.

A city charter usually includes a provision for officials to review after a certain period, however Republic’s didn’t.

Other questions voters will be asked are eliminating city clerk as an appointed position and repealing the tie-breaking and veto power of mayor pro tempore.

Those decisions will be made on April 2nd.
