The prosecution and defense of a Laclede double murder trial have rested their cases. Closing arguments will be made on Monday at 9 o’clock.

Chad and Riley Gerber were found dead in their Grovespring home on July 8th, 2014 and Matthew Rumbaugh is charged with both of their deaths.

Rumbaugh disputes that he did not shoot the two, but that his mistress and Chad Gerber’s wife Jennifer had already killed her husband and step-son. He says he agreed to take the blame for Chad’s death after she threatened suicide. He says that he never broke into the house.

Chad Gerber’s brother Mark says that the story “seems pretty ludicrous.” Mark Gerber remarked that he thought there were several inconsistencies in Rumbaugh’s testimony and cross examination, and felt as though it hurt Rumbaugh’s case, “If you want my honest opinion, I think it was a horrible mistake for him to take the stand and tell this new story.”

Jury deliberations will begin on Monday.
