From understanding how pressure works and how you can lay on a full size bed of nails and not get punctured, to learning how unique fingerprints are formed, students at schools in the Branson and Hollister areas are getting some hands on learning thanks to a special partnership.

WonderWorks is an indoor amusement park for the mind an it’s set to open in Branson this fall.

The business has teamed up with local schools to offer in-service educational opportunities, focusing on scientific methods to teach kids about the principles of pressure and fingerprints.

The “Principles of Pressure” program uses science to show students how much pressure it takes a nail to puncture something. The kids work with the teacher to develop a hypothesis, conduct an experiment using a balloon on a nail, and then repeating the experiment using a block of wood.

The students use math to determine how much weight can be put on the nail before the balloon pops.

The “Fingerprints” program is done at middle schools. It allows students to examine the patterns on their own skin, looking at their fingertips through a magnifying lens.

The kids make a set of their own printed fingerprints, comparing their unique pattern with common types of prints.

WonderWorks Branson will be moving into the previous location of the Baldknobbers Theatre at 2835 West 76 Country Boulevard.

The interactive indoor amusement park offers STEM-focused activities for all ages in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
