Cox And Mercy Participating In Statewide Ebola Drill Today

Mercy Hospital Springfield and Cox South will be participating in a statewide drill today to practice Missouri hospitals’ response to an Ebola patient.

Drill begins at 9 a.m. and ends by 11 a.m.

The drill is in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Locally, medical teams will be practicing how they would keep a suspected Ebola patient isolated, how medical staff would use Personal Protective Equipment to protect themselves and the public from the spread of the disease and Emergency Medical Services’ protocol for transferring the patient to a designated Ebola care center.

State lawmakers have been invited to observe, and two evaluators from the National Ebola Training Education Center (NETEC) will be on hand as well.

This exercise will highlight the precautions taken during any highly-contagious disease outbreak. Visuals will include the “donning and doffing” of Personal Protective Equipment.
