“Jedi Disposal Act” Seeks to Make Outdoor Cremation Legal

A new bill could allow outdoor cremations in the state of Missouri, and only needs the governor’s approval.

The bill is called the “Jedi Disposal Act” in reference to the Star Wars films, where two characters were cremated outdoors after they died. The only place where this is currently allowed in the U. S. is in a single city in southwest Colorado.

Missouri State Senator Jason Holsman from Kansas City, said he voted for the bill since the practice had prehistoric roots.

The bill does stipulate that one must be licensed in order to perform the outdoor cremation. Prior to that stipulation the bill met some resistance, but after it was added, it passed quickly.
