Springfield Public Schools is planning to spend about $8 million dollars to create secure entrances on several district buildings this summer.

Officials say the projects are being funded by the $168 million dollar bond issue voters approved in April.

The Executive Director of Operations, Travis Shaw, says work started the second week of June. They are planning on upgrading entrances at 31 different buildings, although some might not be completed by the end of the summer.

Shaw says crews will be adding new glass to the entrances. He says the glass is not bullet proof, but workers plan to add a protective film that makes the glass shatter-resistant.
