Storms have already moved through the southwestern part of the KTTS listening area, through Joplin, Neosho, and Cassville. Reports of strong winds up to 50 miles per hour emerged, along with resulting damage. A tree fell on a house in Joplin, and several utility poles were blown over.
Into the early morning hours on Thursday, severe thunderstorms are possible, depending on cloud cover. Mark Burchfield, with the National Weather Service, believes that it isn’t perfectly likely, however.
Burchfield is more concerned with heavy rain that could inundate certain areas and cause flash flooding. The National Weather Service has put a flash flood watch in effect through Thursday into Friday morning.
