Branson police are discouraging local businesses from independent enforcement after a motel owner threatened to shoot a customer when she said she was coming to get a refund “no matter what.”

The hotel owner said he would consider her a trespasser and says that he feared for his life and business.

He defended his threat with Missouri Castle Doctrine Statues. Legal experts say that the statutes do not cover mere trespass.

Branson police say that they talked to the motel owner about the incident and determined that he understood if there was a confrontation, he call them first.
