The National Weather Service in Springfield is expecting some potential severe weather late this evening and overnight.

Drew Albert, a meteorologist for the NWS, says a cold front is going to move through Southwest Missouri starting around 10 p.m. or later.

“It’ll be racing pretty quickly to the east overnight. Probably thorugh the Springfield area around midnight, definitely in the middle of the night.”, Albert said in an interview.

Albert says in addition, the storm should move towards near the West Plains area around 3 or 4 in the a.m. hours.

According to Albert, the winds are one of the biggest concerns. The wind gusts could get over 60 miles per hour, and could damage property.

The National Weather Service does say there’s a possibility of tornadoes, along with chances of receiving hail around an inch in size.

The KTTS Storm Chasers will monitor this storm as it moves through the area and keep you up to date with the latest watches and warnings.
