A Greene County judge is weighing the evidence in the murder trial for Tommy Morris, Jr.
He’s charged with hitting and killing Dana Sowards in a crash at Scenic and Mt. Vernon in Springfield in 2018.
Morris took the stand on day three of his trial Thursday.
He admitted causing Sowards death and apologized to her family.
He says he had a warrant and didn’t want to go to jail.
He says he didn’t know the people who were following him that day were undercover police officers, even though he saw the flashing lights.
Morris denied being on drugs, even though police testified a drug test showed he had meth and marijuana in his system.
Morris could get up to life in prison if he’s convicted of second degree murder and drug charges.
The defense says he should be found guilty of first degree manslaughter, not murder.
