EPA Releases List of Disinfectants Approved for Use Against Coronavirus

Believe it or not, coronaviruses are one of the easiest viruses to kill with the use of a proper disinfectant.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a list of EPA registered disinfectant products that they say are qualified to combat SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The 2020 outbreak has initiated the first use of the EPA’s Emerging Viral Pathogen Guidance.

The guidance was established in 2016 to enable quick response to emerging viral outbreaks by outlining a pre-approval process for claims made by companies in the event of an outbreak.

Companies with pre-approved products can make off-label claims for use against the outbreak.

“Using the correct disinfectant is an important part of preventing and reducing the spread of illnesses along with other critical aspects such as handwashing,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. “There is no higher priority for the Trump Administration than protecting the health and safety of Americans. EPA is providing this important information in a public and transparent manner on disinfectant products to help reduce the spread of COV-19.”

Remember to read label directions thoroughly and always pay close attention to the contact time for each product when using disinfectants.
