The Springfield-Greene County Health Department says severe weather will override coronavirus gathering rules.

Health Department officials say they encourage the community to heed current recommendations for shelter during severe weather—including tornadoes.

Current recommendations for social distancing suggest no groups larger than 10 people–but Health Department officials say severe weather presents an even greater risk.

“Social distancing is important in this time, but please heed the warnings regarding severe weather,” said Larry Wood, the director of the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management, “We would encourage property managers, as well, to continue to make their safe rooms and shelters available to their residents.”
