Large Hail And Damaging Winds Likely This Evening With Risk For Tornadoes

Strong to severe storms are expected to sweep through the Ozarks from late this afternoon through this evening.

The National Weather Service says the main threats will be hail to the size of golf balls, damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour, along with cloud to ground lightning.

Isolated tornadoes are also possible, with all of southwest Missouri now under an enhanced risk for severe weather.

Severe storms may begin firing well ahead of the front along and east of the Highway 65 corridor from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. and track into the eastern Ozarks.

In addition, heavy downpours could lead to flooding in some areas.

Forecasters say the storms along the front should enter the western Ozarks somewhere between 5 and 6 p.m. and rapidly track across the area, entering the Springfield metro area around 7 p.m. and moving through the eastern Ozarks between 9 and 10 p.m.

The KTTS Storm Chasers will keep you up to date with the latest watches and warnings across southwest Missouri and chase storms as they move into and through the metro area.
