Springfield, MO. (April 30, 2020)  In response to the end of the temporary Stay-At-Home order issued by the state of Missouri, and the Phased Recovery Plan issued by the City of Springfield and Greene County on April 30, the Springfield Art Museum will remain closed until further notice. The Museum is developing rigorous re-entry protocols that include heightened facility maintenance and sanitation, maximum gallery occupancy monitoring, mask, glove, and sanitizer procurement for staff and patrons, and changes to the drop-in procedures of the Family Art Lab. The Museum will adhere to all City and County orders and will not open until these re-entry protocols are finalized and enacted in order to ensure the health and safety of all Museum patrons, staff, and the works of art entrusted to our care.

As a department of the City of Springfield, Missouri, The Museum has been closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) reports on COVID-19 and following recommendations and ordinances from City leadership, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, the state of Missouri, and the federal government.

All public programs and events remain cancelled through July 6, with the additional cancellation of the Missouri State University MFA Showcase exhibition (May 1-24), and the Museum’s onsite Summer Art Camps, which were set to begin June 16. The Museum is developing alternate Summer Art Camp programming which will include take-home activities. This alternate programming will be free to the public. Anyone registered for onsite Summer Art Camps will be issued a full refund.

The Museum appreciates our patrons’ continued patience and understanding as we navigate quickly changing public service operating guidelines during this unprecedented public health situation. We will continue to make additional refinements to our disease prevention and pandemic response procedures as necessary. Security and climate systems remain in operation.
