The Missouri Department of Conservation is taking action to prevent the spread of Chronic wasting disease and confirms that 46 new cases of CWD have been found including some in Polk, Taney, and Stone counties.
137,000 deer have been tested and 162 found positive for the illness.
CWD or Chronic Wasting Disease is a prion disease that affects deer. It is 100% lethal and experts are concerned that eating infected meat could lead to the disease passing from deer to humans, as has happened before with Mad Cow Disease.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is conducting tests to implement preventative measures such as targeted culling.
