Municipal Elections In The Ozarks Today: Get Sample Ballots Here

Voters in several communities in the Ozarks will be deciding races for mayor and aldermen, school board races, money issues and more.

This election was originally scheduled for April 7th, but postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Here’s some main issues voters will decide today.

SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES:

  • Ozark School District – Voters will decide a bond issue for building and renovating school facilities, including renovation of the Ozark Innovation Center.
  • Fordland Schools – A bond issue on the ballot for school improvements, including building a gymnasium and activity center. (Fordland schools also has a tax levy increase for operating expenses, including raises for faculty and staff on the ballot)
  • Voters in Galena will vote on a “Proposition K.I.D.S.” issue for borrowing money to complete extensive safety upgrades at all schools building, including secure entrances and intercom systems. This also includes sports field improvements.
  • Camdenton Schools – Tax Levy Increase to join the OTC district in the area.
  • Voters in the Barry-Lawrence Library District will vote on a seven-cent tax increase for library expansion.

PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUES:

  • Taney County – Three-eighths cent sales tax on the ballot for law enforcement.
  • Newton County –  ½ cent 9-1-1 public safety tax on the ballot to provide central dispatching.
  • Voters in Marshfield will vote on two issues related to the Fire Protection District; Extend boundaries to include all property within the corporate city limits of Marshfield, as well as a property tax increase to hire full time firefighters..

USE TAX ISSUES:

  • Laclede and Ozark Counties – Use tax on out of state purchases

ROAD AND BRIDGE:

  • Lawrence and Hickory County – Voters are deciding separate sales taxes for road and bridge improvements.

Important note for voters in Springfield: The Greene County Clerk says voters in the city of Springfield and the Springfield School District do not have anything on the ballot Tuesday. However, voters who live in the Willard R-2 or Republic R-3 school districts, within the city limits of Springfield, will have a ballot for the local school board.

There are also some changes to polling places.

1st/2nd Boone has been temporarily moved from Ash Grove Sunshine Center, 310 North Perryman, to Ash Grove School-South Entry, 100 North Maple Lane. This change was made in response to COVID-19 and the availability of the previous location.

1st Center to Murray. A small group of voters in the 1st Center precinct who normally vote at Willard Central Elementary have received notice that they will be voting for this election only in the Murray precint at Willard Community Center on 222 W Jackson in Willard.

Battlefield B to Battlefield A – Voters in the Battlefield B precinct who normally vote at Graceway Baptist Church have received notice that they will be voting for this election only in the Battlefield-A precinct at 1 st Baptist Church – Battlefield on 5010 S State Highway FF in Battlefield.
