The Springfield City Council will vote Monday night on whether to require the wearing of face masks for people 12 and older.
People plan to stand outside of city hall on Monday to protest the city ordinance. The Facebook group associated with the event showed 200 people interested in attending.
Melanie Taylor, an organizer for the event, says she feels the local government moved too quickly.
“The new norm is frightening to me and I don’t want to, I don’t want to live like that.”
If it passes, it will go into effect on Wednesday.
Medical professionals say the mandatory masking could help, even if it only reduces the burden of disease by 50%.
