Governor Parson is drawing criticism for saying schools need to reopen, even though kids could get the coronavirus.
Parson told conservative St. Louis radio host Marc Cox that kids will get COVID-19 when they go to school.
But he says they’ll be able to go home and recover.
Parson made the comments Friday on KFTK radio.
The story first ran in the St.Louis Post-Dispatch.
Gov. Mike Parson: “These kids have got to get back to school…. And if they do get COVID-19, which they will — and they will when they go to school — they’re not going to the hospitals…. They’re going to go home and they’re going to get over it.” https://t.co/yEtHbYf3sZ pic.twitter.com/SzoieUGPOh

Auditor Nicole Galloway, who’s running for governor, tweeted that the comments are stunning ignorance.
You can hear audio from the interview below:
This is stunning ignorance from @GovParsonMO on how COVID-19 affects children. He admitted that he’s okay with your kids (and your families) getting the deadly disease when he sends them back to school. Does he not realize multiple American kids have died after being infected? pic.twitter.com/UZtjt043Fs

In a press conference Monday, Governor Parson said his comments were taken out of context.
He says he cares about children.
