Greene County Taking Applications For CARES Act Money

Greene County leaders are taking applications for $34-million dollars in federal CARES Act funding intended to help address the coronavirus.

The county has had the money for a while.

But Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon says it took some time to come up with a plan to do it right.

He says everything will be audited, so every dollar has to be accounted for.

Nonprofits were allowed to apply first.

Now, healthcare organizations can submit applications.

After that, the process will be opened up to small businesses, education, and taxpayer supported agencies.

Governor Parson has been criticizing counties for not giving the money away.

Greene County leaders say if the state was in charge of handing out the money, it would take a lot longer.
