Father And Son Charged With Fatal Shooting Even Though They Didn’t Shoot Victim

A father and son have been charged with second-degree murder, even though they never shot anyone.

Instead, Rick Johnson, Sr. and Rick Johnson Jr., could see jail time for the murder of Joshua Woods.

Woods and Johnson Jr. tried to break into an apartment on June 17 at the Golden Pond complex off Kingsley, just north of Republic Road in Springfield.

The man living in the apartment shot at the intruders, injuring Johnson Jr., and killing Woods.

Prosecutors say the father and son are charged because their actions lead to the deadly shooting.

Prosecutors go on to says Johnson Sr. had drugs and money stolen from him. He got his son and his son’s friend together to go look for the people who had stolen from him.

A probable cause statement says the three men went to the apartment complex and Johnson Senior stayed in a truck while his son and Woods, the friend, went to an apartment armed with guns.
