Greene County Jail To Hold Springfield Prisoners

When the construction of a temporary Greene County Jail is completed, it will hold Springfield prisoners.

Springfield’s Police Chief Paul Williams says there have been more than 10,000 municipal warrants that officers have not been able to serve because of a lack of jail space.

Chief Williams says people who think they will not go to jail because of the overpopulation issues should know that’s about to change.

Williams also says the expansion of space will allow officers to have access to a local jail and book people into jail while also serving outstanding warrants.

The expected completion date for the temporary jail is November 9.

With the temporary jail, Greene County will be able to hold close to 990 inmates.
