How To Put Together A Severe Weather Preparedness Kit

The Springfield-Greene County Emergency Management director says now is the time to get ready for storm season.

Director Larry Woods says it starts with creating a severe weather preparedness kit.

“Make the kit mobile. If you would have to evacuate your house for whatever reason, then be able to put it in something you can take with you, like a backpack or a small tote or something.”

Woods says make sure you have plenty of food, water, medicine, your personal papers, a radio and your smartphone.

This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week.

Here’s more from Springfield-Greene County Emergency Management:

To kick-start your preparedness efforts:

– Build an emergency kit for both your home and car. You can find examples on what to pack right here https://www.ready.gov/kit.

– Develop a family plan that details who to contact and where to go in the event of a disaster all while including pictures of family members too.

– Stay connected with a weather radio or free weather app in order to receive real-time severe weather information and updates.
